Before planting any vegetables, I wanted to create a pathway to access all areas of the garden. My Mom had just finished landscaping the rest of her backyard and had removed some concrete slabs which 'just so happened' to have brick borders that were saved and stacked behind her garage. These were the perfect element to create an inviting pathway.
I started a pattern of two horizontal bricks next to one vertical and had enough used bricks to pave my pathway.
We got creative forming the curve and used broken and imperfect bricks
which were perfect to stagger and create the bend along the meandering path.
With my sister Janet's help, we tilled the soil with shovels and rakes, and had enough used bricks to complete the garden path
The completed path allows us access to all areas of the garden, and the curved lines adds some whimsical character. We still need to fill in the gaps of the brick to solidify them in place, but I'm thrilled with the results!
Here is a before (above) ...
...and after photo (below).
I look forward to filling this dirt patch with vegetables and herbs to enjoy throughout the summer.
