Growing a Vegetable Garden, Part I - Planting Seeds

I've been wanting to plant a vegetable garden for the past few years, and decided to start last week.  My Mom has a nice plot of dirt behind her garage that has been beckoning me.  Everyone says it's quite laborious to grow vegetables, but in spite of the work ahead, I am still digging in (literally).

I'm growing a combination of vegetables and herbs from both seeds and small starter plants.
I found seed packs on sale and started with radishes, cilantro, green beans, corn, sunflowers, scallions, carrots, dill and parsely.
I bought a plastic greenhouse seed starter for $7.00. It has 72 rooting cells and I planted 3-4 seeds per cell to thin out and separate later when planting in the ground.  Planting multiple seeds per cell increases the chance of some healthy sprouts (at least I'm hoping that will increase my chances).

I was told that radishes are easy to grow and mature the fastest.

Those radishes were true to the instructions and started sprouting within days.  This is how they looked by day 3 (at right) with some sprouts already an inch tall.  It amazes me how God designed life to grow from a seed that is so small and dormant.
Week #1
By day 6, the radishes grew to two inches (below)
Only one other seed had broken ground - the sunflowers in the lower right 9-square section (above).
New plant life is very exciting!
I might have a green thumb after all and I'm hopeful for week two and more growth....
