Candy Corn Autumn Decorations

There's only one time a year that I buy (or eat) candy corn, and once I see the bags in the supermarket, I know fall has arrived!!  Autumn is my favorite time of the year, as the days get cooler, the leaves change color and I get to bring out sweaters and boots to wear.  Since my Mom became a grandmother over 30 years ago, she began keeping candy jars on the kitchen counter in various sizes of vintage glass mason jars.  She changes the candy combination depending on the season or her mood, so that her mix of candy is decorative year round.  With the many sweet tooths that abound in our family, it's amazing that her candy jars are never empty.

Tradional Candy Corn and Caramel Candy Corn Apothecary Jars
I found this decorative candy corn apothecary idea on Blonde Designs blog in 2009 and have used it each year since.  I found the apothecary jars for under $10 at Home Goods (favorite store), and you can change the content in them for each season, or monthly, for that matter.  To save on the amount of candy needed, I taped two plastic cups in the middle of the tall jar, and filled the candy around them which remain unseen.

Last year, Mom introduced me to carmel candy corn, which has become my new favorite. These are the marigold orange color candies with the brown tips.   I like them better because they are not as sweet, but have a little buttery caramel flavor.  For an even tastier combination, my sister Barbara served us regular candy corn mixed together with honey roasted peanuts ... the combination tastes like a Pay Day candy bar.

Mom, thanks for giving us all an appreciation for sweets in any shape, color or flavor.

you are so right, seems like Mom's candy jars are the first place I head when I'm over there.
haven't tried the caramel corn, but seriously want to.

You are so creative! I love the jars and wish my fingers were in them. Fall is my favorite time of year, too...is it because my b'day is in the fall?? :-) Love you!
